Grand opening this Saturday, 10/26/24 @ 10:00am Mostly O with some HO. Date: 10/25/24 21:52 Re: New model train store in Thurmont, MD. Author: boejoe I'm guessing that the shop up the road in Blue Ridge Summit PA has a bigger selection - especially HO.
jb Date: 10/26/24 15:02 Re: New model train store in Thurmont, MD. Author: Streamliner I wish these folks the very best of success. That said, being only about 15 minutes from Blue Ridge Summit, PA, this might have not been a great location choice. Major competition pretty close by. Anyway, I'm sure we all wish them well.

Trains and Hobbies occupied that large scale niche here in Thurmont from 1990-2015? This new store pays homage to that business and even displays the former store's sign. I attended today and business was brisk throughout the morning. I was only disappointed in the donuts... The "famous" stores in Blue Ridge and Gettysburg won't be there forever. "1990-2015" with regards to model railroad retailing is like talking about ANCIENT HISTORY. The business is absolutely different, more competitive and extremely difficult for anyone starting up these days. I hope they are very well capitalized and that their livelihood doesn't depend on profits from the store. Date: 10/27/24 04:10 Re: New model train store in Thurmont, MD. Author: Streamliner Sorry, wasn't trying to "lecture" anyone, but it was my career for many decades and I'm still involved at the periphery of the business. Just offering my opinion.
