Walthers SW1200 speaker
Author: wingomann

I just got a Walthers DCC SP SW1200 for Christmas. Nice looking model. I ran it for a couple of days and the speaker quit working. I tried resetting to factory settings to see if it would fix it but it still doesn’t work. All other DCC functions work. I am thinking about contacting Walthers and sending it for warranty repair but considering shipping cost I’m wondering if I should just buy and install a new speaker. Any thoughts? Any recommendations on a better speaker to install?

May not be the speaker. Could be a loose connector to the speaker, or the audio section went out on the decoder.

Are you running it on DC or DCC?

I would be checking the speaker connections first, this is the quickest and cheapest fix, but replacing the Walthers speaker will result in much better sound quality.
But first check the wires going to the speaker, that is the most likely problem.

Walthers did get a batch a bad decoders from ESU, so it could be the decoder and not the speaker.
