Model Railroading > Willamette gas donkey in 3DDate: 01/05/25 12:08 Willamette gas donkey in 3D Author: Jeff_Johnston My first HO scale print of the Willamette gas donkey used by the Sugar Pine Lumber Company is in hand. The SPLCo used mainly electric yarders and loaders but had two small Clyde gas donkeys and this one Willamette for use during rig-ups, wreck repair and the like when the electric power lines had not yet been run to a new landing. The designer was a bit unsure about some details, due to blueprint and photo quality, so it’s not museum-grade detail but it's close enough for me to present the image and a lot better than what I could scratchbuild. The cylinder at left is the radiator, at right is the fuel tank. The frame is straight, it's the paper underneath that's a bit wrinkled. Next up, the aled, brake/clutch levers and so on.

Looking forward to the costs for this process coming down as it becomes more popular. Any comments on the chemistry and/or odors that you may have to deal with?
Thanks for posting! Oliver Barrett Date: 01/05/25 13:36 Re: Willamette gas donkey in 3D Author: Jeff_Johnston Oliver:
I don't know anything about the odors etc as this print was done for me by a contractor. For the sake of the inevitable followup comments: 3D printing is not something I wish to pursue even though people will always say "but the cost is coming down and it's so easy these days!" Fine. Please re-read my comment about not wishing to pursue it. I prefer to devote my hobby time to other endeavors. I worked as a choker setter between school breaks when I was (much) younger.

My fault, I should have specified. Jeff |
