Bachmann Dash 8-40CW Cracked Axle Gears

I have two Bachmann Dash 8-40CW's with cracked axle gears. Bachmann only offers the wheel/axle/gear as an assembly. 
Any info on where to purchase these would be appreciated.

someone will correct me but I had heard that Athearn gears would fit, search u tube

I know the Athearn gears work as a replacement for the early Life Like Proto2000 models, but have not heard of them being used on the bachmann models before. I thought the bachmann models axle gears were considerably different.

The Athearn axle gear (Part No. 60024) has 12 teeth. The Bachmann gear (No. Part Number) has 14 teeth.
Not interchangeable.
I have seen two "repair processes" for axle gears (both Athearn and Bachmann) but both are quite involved and do not guarantee success.
Replacement of the gears seems to be the logical and correct thing to do, IF replacements can be found.
