Good locomotive for us old modelers who remember them...

I was eyeballing the two MRL units. Not sure why they chose two back to back road numbers, but I've photographed both of the prototypes.

So they can do a Norfolk & Western Hi-Hood, but not a Southern?

Maybe next run?

I saw the SP SD40 but it looks like they are doing the rebuild SP SD40R.

Daylight SP SD40R would be nice, as would WM (although I guess Athearn did one not long ago, right?)

I would prefer a triple order of McCloud SD38s with the ultra small fuel tank. But I am happy to see the SD40 none the less!

I guess my Tampa Northern is going to need 2 Clinchfield and 1 Conrail unit.

There goes a grand...lol

I already put a lot of time into superdetailing a Athearn SP #7342. But I was hoping ScaleTrains does the SD44R SP #7399

I'd be in for an SP 8400 and a black WM. Maybe in a later run?

Well Ted, these days it seems the more obscure things go to the front of the line. Like you I'd love one also. Since they are doing SD9s, maybe we will see some of the early 45s like the BN white side merger scheme.

So you're the one to thank for invoking Dabney's Law?

Ted was pondering:

I wondered the same thing. Bowser indicates they will be MRL SD40-2XR With the stylized 'W' and Bayern lion head.
The unit numbers will be MRL 253 and MRL 254.

Information I have in hand suggests they were two of a group of seven SD40s bought from BN in '87 that were part of BN order 5801. They came to MRL as a group around the end of October and start of November, 1987 along with two C&S units. These were two that didn't go to IMRL, thus the lionhead herald.

I have heard that Bowser's SD40-2 was tooled as a London, Ontario-built locomotive, so I wondered if the MRL 253 and 254 were Canadian built. But I have confirmation back that the whole series was built at La Grange, IL. I'll wait for more information, but I'm leaning toward the MRL pair.

One thing I am sure of is that Bowser's production will look better than those old Kato ultraviolet blue IMRL SD40s from years back. I never was able to overtint that color to something that looked right.

Yes, Bowser did the Canadian version of the SD40-2 that had some important detail differences that set them apart from their US counterparts. I have three CP SD40-2's and a CP SD40F-2, all wonderful units that run very well. Bowser makes some real quality models.
