Date: 01/25/25 08:55 Re: For So. Cal. Fans Only……. Author: atsf121 Looks great! Didn’t see it until after it became a light rail line, but it is a great scene and that model is well done.

There was a period in the 1980s where some westbounds from San Bernardino to LA were routed on the 2nd District and eastbounds were on the 3rd. So not so much a "maybe" moment as a more common event from that era. Date: 01/25/25 11:04 Re: For So. Cal. Fans Only……. Author: 3rdswitch Yes, late seventies early eitghties saw lots of regular eastbounds as they CT'd San Bernardino LA via Third then "continuous time" back to San Bernardino via the Second. This saved the Santa Fe seventy two miles of pay for these crews. Then later mid eighties after the pools were moved from San Bernardino to LA, and into nineties, westbound, mostly intermodals regularly used the now Pasadena Sub to get from San Bernardino to LA. When the San Bernardino Sub was finally two tracked, through freight on the Pasadena Sub ended. Excellent scene.

The Santa Fe sold the whole San Bernardino-Los Angeles Pasadena Sub to the public agencies who were planning to use the ROW for transit. From Pomona East this has become Metrolink, with Santa Fe (BNSF) trackage rights. West from Pomona has, or is becoming light rail, almost complete to Pomona now. Part of the deal was that there would be no more freight or Amtrak operation through Pasadena. A major part of the light rail investment was to cross many east-west streets, including Colorado Blvd., by depressing the rail line. I got to see the last westbound SW Chief and almost the last WB through freights on this line. Date: 01/25/25 16:35 Re: For So. Cal. Fans Only……. Author: Ivar Thank you for the compliments. I grew up in Highland Park (Los Angeles), so the big bridge was a frequent destination to watch the action. Sure do miss those days…
