Model Railroading > Clinicians needed, Pacific Model Loggers' Congress, April 5Date: 01/28/25 09:56 Clinicians needed, Pacific Model Loggers' Congress, April 5 Author: Jeff_Johnston Greetings! Time is rolling ahead towards the next and maybe last Pacific Model Loggers' Congress on April 5 at the Camp 18 Restaurant and Logging Museum in Elsie, Oregon. We're still in need for clinic presenters, either in the modeling realm or logging history, so we'd sure appreciate any leads anyone can pass along in the regard. Vendors, remember, there is no extra vendor fee this time. Your general admission to the event covers your dealer fee. But we need to know how many vendors want to attend and how many tables each will need. In general we're limited to one table each depending on the number of vendors and our somewhat limited space. Drop me a note to sign up as a vendor and we'll get you on the list.

As one who helps put on the Central Ohio RPM, getting clinicians continues to be a struggle.
Date: 01/29/25 10:57 Re: Clinicians needed, Pacific Model Loggers' Congress, April 5 Author: Jeff_Johnston It's always been a struggle, especially lately, after many of our "grand old men" in the hobby have passed away. These guys were the ones who shaped the logging railroad part of our hobby as authors, photographers and historians. Many of them were always willing to give clinic presentations, sometimes with a bit of encouragement from us event hosts, and they were well received by the participants. Today we draw from the current batch of logging modelers including those who focus on the current era of log trucks and modern machinery. We're hoping for the best with a mix of modeling and prototype history presenters.
We help as much as we can, for example, when it's a hands-on modeling subject, we have a video camera trained on the action so those in back can see what's going on, on the big screen. Not sure of that might encourage someone to take part but it's worth a try. Photo 1 is Greg Baker presenting on making fir trees while the video camera looks over his shoulder. Photo 2 is Martin Hansen and a presentation on moving dead logging locos to the scrap lines. Jeff Edited 2 time(s). Trying to identify later day log cars is a field of study by itself.
Oregon and especially the Willlamette Valley industry and hobbyists have a lot of interesting info that could be presented. But agree spotlight Clinicians are hard to find. Perhaps making a list of interesting topics would be helpful. Ideas like how the Coos Bay diesels ended up working on Vancouver Island alongside OC&E log cars. Lots of short stories in a big hobby. Kinda missing the Timberbeast. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/29/25 12:04 by TCnR. I’ve long been interested in attending this event but just haven’t been able to pull it off. Jeff Moore Elko, NV Posted from iPhone |
