A few from recent op sessions
Author: bobdavis

Attached are three pictures from operating sessions in 2024 on the PRR "Blue Mountain Division".  All three shots were taken with a smartphone camera by Doug Atwood, one of our regular operators from Idaho Falls, Idaho.  #1 is local freight BM-11 arriving at "Rockland", the end of one of two branch lines on the railroad, to switch the industries in that small central Pennsylvania town.  The RS3, 8457, is an older Atlas with a Tsunami sound decoder.  It was one of a number of PRR RS3's that were not equipped with Trainphones.  #2 is the "varnish" on the line, eastbound train 406, the "Blue Mountain Express", with a pair of Broadway Limited E units and 10 cars including a diner and sleeper, starting down the 1.6% grade.  #3 is eastbound through freight PG-2, Pittsburgh to Philadelphia (Greenwich), passing through "Bayfield", the largest town on the railroad, with a trio of new GP9's.  The Geeps are Bachmanns with SoundTraxx decoders, purchased from long time friend and fellow TO'er "kemacprr" when he moved his railroad to a newer era.

The railroad, set in 1956, has been in operation since early 2008.  We run every other month with a crew of anywhere from 6 to as many as 12-14 operators.  It's been fun!

Excellent photos and thank you for sharing. I appreciate the work to keep everything period correct for the timeline of the layout.

In 1956 the Pennsy had B-6's, H-9's and K-4's in steam at the Camden (NJ) Terminal Enginehouse.  Your time line falls into place but not the location.  Your brand new 0-6-0 can probably be justified in upcoming operating  sessions.

Very nice! Is this layout there in Thayne, WY? That's a bit out of the way place. The closest I've been would be Soda Springs.

Ted, thanks.  Yes, the RR is in Thayne, WY, about as far west as you can go in this state before entering Idaho.  I moved here from southeast PA after I retired in 1999.  I had a smaller PRR layout back in PA so decided to keep the "Pennsy" going at the new place.
