Model Railroading > We finally rated? Wabash RailroadDate: 07/02/25 19:11 We finally rated? Wabash Railroad Author: wabash2800 I saw this, but the only Wabash model version offered according to the photo is brown. AFIK, the steel cabooses were a bright red with most of the wooden versions a brown.

Wabash Railroad Author: wabash2800 I have had some contact with a former president and board member of the Wabash RR Historical Society, and he says he worked with Walthers on this a long time ago and was surprised that it finally came to fruition. Gary recently made Walthers aware that the image depicted is incorrect (the lettering and the color). I have some Wright Track Model resin cars and have all that I need but might reserve one to see how well they were done. I hope the windows are correct. as brass models had the windows too small.
Walthers is offering Ann Arbor, DT&I and N&W versions. The blue N&W car was not as common as the red cars. In fact, I never saw one blue car the entire time I railfanned N&W in Indiana. Wabash Railroad Author: gandydancer4 At $75.00 a car, they better be VERY accurate.
Date: 07/03/25 09:12 Re: We finally rated? Wabash Railroad Author: wabash2800 Though not a big deal to me, note there were different roof corrugations. I would assume that Walthers stuck with one version.
Victor Baird Edit: Walthers is offering the two different roof syles. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/04/25 15:25 by wabash2800. Date: 07/03/25 09:48 Re: We finally rated? Wabash Railroad Author: PHall You can always get an undecorated one and detail it how you want it.
The undecorated cars come unassembled so you don't have to disassemble the model to work on it. Makes it real easy to add DCC lights and sound too. Date: 07/03/25 10:33 Re: We finally rated? Wabash Railroad Author: Lighter gandydancer4 Wrote:

At least we've moved beyond Irv's paint every railroad name on a Santa Fe-style caboose. Date: 07/03/25 10:42 Re: We finally rated? Wabash Railroad Author: SantaFe5704 Of course, there is always this for more information on the cabooses.

Date: 07/03/25 14:12 Re: We finally rated? Wabash Railroad Author: wabash2800 I bought one of their undec Troop Camp cars and it was assembled--glued together. I'll try putting it in the freezer to disassemble before painting. It's easier than masking the windows.

Wabash Railroad Author: wabash2800 Thanks but they still have the Wabash car in the wrong paint scheme and no red N&W cars. The windows look like they are too small like the brass versions offered.

Seems that would be a lot less work assembled and painted but no reporting marks. Date: 07/03/25 16:36 Re: We finally rated? Wabash Railroad Author: ATSFSuperCap I always thought these cabeese were really kool, very glad to see WAL doing them. Unfortunately I am not really a Wabash guy. I did get the Bway CZ cars in the Blue Bird scheme and pull it with a old P2K E8 modified to sit on a new Walpro helical gear drive. A modeler could cheat a bit and get one undec and doll it up CB&Q or BN. The Bmann car shown in the bottom right corner is a Q car.
Richard. Date: 07/03/25 17:02 Re: We finally rated? Wabash Railroad Author: wabash2800 The undec troop cars were assembled like mine, correct?

Date: 07/04/25 19:29 Re: We finally rated? Wabash Railroad Author: wabash2800 I suspect other schemes will be coming, but you would think the Wabash and N&W red schemes would be first out. Maybe the Ann Arbor Historical Society can sponsor a run?
