Model Railroading > Summer Project: SF OverlandDate: 07/06/25 09:30 Summer Project: SF Overland Author: BoilingMan If you follow my posts, you might remember I live an amphibious live style. Since retiring 10yrs ago (oh crap! 10yrs?!!) I now live on The Hill (Dutch Flat) Winter/Spring and 6mo on the water (Santa Barbara) Summer/Fall.
For the aquatic portion of this I pick a few projects to bring along- mostly things that don't require an active layout, like car building. This Summer's major project aboard The Good Boat Marika Paige will be finishing this train... This is the pre-war San Francisco Overland. At the time the Overland was the SP's premier train East-West over Donner. It was an all-Pullman service except briefly, during the depression years, when a chair car was added. I've been collecting older brass cars that are proper for this train. This video is a test run, to confirm an Athearn SP Mt-4 could handle the brass cars on the grades of the club layout in Crockett, CA. It did (I might even get away with one more car), so: onward! This Summer I will finish out the cars with glazing, interiors, diaphrams, and maybe some additional underbody detail. I'm not planning to add lighting other than a drumhead and markers on the observation car. BTW: The rear car of the Overland in these years were those of the Pullman Co's Crystal series. I've lettered mine Crystal Peak- the car that went on to be today's Virginia City. SR You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today!
