Thanks. Date: 07/20/25 10:05 Re: The Coach Yard announcements at the NMRA National Train Show Author: RailThunder To me the Auto-Train announcement is exciting in the unique cars being offerred seperately, such as the Steam-Heater Cars and the unique Auto-Carrier Caboose, which have never been done in plastic. At least one manufacturer has snubbed doing the AT painted versions of their cars previously produced, which are correct for Auto-Train. Still, the holdout is the tri-level auto carriers (The Roka freight version is somewhat in the ballpark as a stand-in), which neight Coach Yard or previous manufacturer has done to date. To be completely fair, the Auto-Train is a lengthy consist and doing the whole consist in Coach Yard, while beautiful is quite a financial investment hence, I will be doing the vast majority of the cars in my paint booth and decalling in the future.
Modeling passenger trains can be finicky. Take for exampe the Silver Meteor, yes Coach Yard is eventually doing this one in SCL, howver a certain manufacturer literally has done 3 cars that were already part of the consist, so even producing a baggage-dorm, 2 sleeper combinations, sun-lounge, and diner would get you the entire consist! But wait, there's more! The same manufacturer also has done two cars that were used on the Southern Crescent! With just the addition of five mroe car types the train could be attained in plastic ready-to-run. Coach Yard again to the rescue. We are also being blessed with those that model SP from Rapido's 3/4 dome, which can be integrated into various SP consists and the recent announcement from Sunset Models of other SP passenger trains. There is a market for these trains, regardless of the cost. Hope it sells well. Date: 07/21/25 19:51 Re: The Coach Yard announcements at the NMRA National Train Show Author: wabash2800 I seem to recall someone did that train in HO brass (Overland?). I saw it at a train show years ago. At the prices Coach Yard charges, I don't think they have to sell very many to make a decent profit. But it satifies a market.
