Atlas CF-7 update
Author: JDLX

So, last update on the great “CF-7 war” I can find is seven months ago, right after Rapido unveiled their forthcoming CF-7s. One of the posts on that thread mentioned Atlas had made their initial announcement in November but had not yet provided any road names or numbers. Sometime in the last couple days Atlas released their summer catalogue with those details, their initial run includes Allegheny Railroad 103 and 104; Amtrak 593, 597, and 598; Ashley, Drew & Northern 1513 and 1514; Black River & Western 41 and 42; Blue Mountain & Reading 600 and 601; and Santa Fe 2564, 2568, and 2579.

Full details (and their entire N and HO catalogue) are available at:

I don't see the Santa Fe early rounded roof version from Atlas.....only angled roof....will stick with Rapido rounded cab roof order for now....
Back in late 70's I operated a CF7 in Central Valley, CA and have been waiting years for a great model of this strange remodel loco...THANK YOU!!

As an N scale guy (and ex-supplier of N scale CF7 kits) the Allegheny units got me into this.   They were expats from the pile that Reading & Northern got, arrived unpatched to the Allegheny, and ran minimally patched and rusty for a long time.  Then 'finally' painted in Allegheny blue and orange, just long enough to get bought out by G&W and get renumbered again as the 303 and 304.

But the 103/303 is a round roof and the 104/304 is an angled roof.   There were actually two more, neither of which actually were repainted, one was a wrecked parts unit, the other one also died rather young and got scrapped out before repainting.

As CF7's didn't have dynamic braking they had limited usefulness on the ALY and usually got paired with one of the 35's or 40's, or stuck in yard duty.  G&W took a look and exiled them to the very flat Louisiana & Delta, where they were renumbered again and finally scrapped.
