Model Railroading > Tangent's Nov 2025 Release: HO PS-2CD 4750 Covered HopperDate: 11/01/25 06:48 Tangent's Nov 2025 Release: HO PS-2CD 4750 Covered Hopper Author: TangentScaleModels Asheville, North Carolina: It’s time for new PS4750 Covered Hoppers! But not just any ordinary PS4750! Nope, Tangent Scale Models announces the availability today of brand new PS4750 tooling that covers some of the unique details of 1973-1974 production cars! This November 2025 release is an exciting release, featuring both railroad and private elevator paint schemes!
The Pullman-Standard PS-2CD 4750 covered hopper was the largest production covered hopper design in history, and is therefore statistically important to virtually any modeler from the 1970s to the present. Tangent Scale Models continues the evolution of our “phased approach” PS4750 models, not “one-size fits all” models. This release shines a spotlight on 1973-1974 Pullman production. Some of these cars feature a brand-new Tangent body variation for cars to handle the combination open-hole and closed-hole side posts on the same body. Our November 2025 production includes eleven (11!) total schemes, with eras spanning 1973 to today, plus THREE all-new, never offered before, Undecorated RTR options. - ATSF "GA-180 Delivery" 1-1973 is an exciting offering for us, as we bring ATSF modelers the “big fish” in the ATSF Pullman 4750 world. This ATSF group totaled 1000 cars in 1973, and features a distinctive body style of combination closed-hole/open-hole side posts. The Tangent replicas mirror their ATSF prototypes with Gypsum roof walkways and matching end crossover platforms, Universal power brake and brake wheel, and body-mounted brake hardware. Underneath, the models come equipped with Keystone “Portloc 2” outlet gates and 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with accurate “Brenco-6” rotating caps. These beautiful cars are available in twelve accurate numbers! SKU 36372 - UP "Delivery Gray CH-100-28” 3-1974 gives a big splash to UP fans. UP rostered eight groups of Pullman 4750s, and we chose the 1000-car order from lot 9721 for this release. This all-new Tangent 4750 body shell features the combination closed-hole/open-hole side posts found on some Pullman 1973/1974 production, along with UP specific corner steps and bolted outlet gate flanges. The roof of the car features another all-new piece of tooling: Landreth style roof hatches, with their distinctive zig-zag rib pattern. Check out those see-through Gypsum roof walkways and matching end crossover platforms. The models come equipped with body-mounted brake hardware and our 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with accurate “Hyatt” rotating caps. Tangent’s UP paint and lettering is unmatched, created with care and accuracy down to the stencil marks are one-inch COTS panel lettering. We are pleased to offer twelve accurate UP numbers. Stay away from foobie 4750s! SKU 36373 - UP "Delivery CH-100-28” With Conspicuity 2005+ offers “modern” modelers of the last 20 years two distinctive UP variations. We chose two specific numbers from the 1974 UP Pullman group and offer them in “Conspicuity Era” configuration. For SKU 36374-01, that translates to UP 73700, still wearing its Pullman delivery paint. The roof hatches have been swapped out to a smooth replacement style. The outlet gates have been replaced with modern bolt-on offerings. For SKU 36374-02, that translates to UP 73847, a UP Pocatello Idaho Shops repaint from 1977, with varying data, replacement roof hatches, and replacement modern outlet gates. Both Tangent models feature a correct Pullman combination closed-hole/open-hole body, weathered UP gray body color with conspicuity stripes added, faded warning stencils and yes, (different!) AEI tag parts mounted, per photos. The models come equipped with body-mounted brake hardware and our 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with accurate “Hyatt” rotating caps. We are pleased to offer two accurate individual numbers. SKU 36374 - PTLX "Roland and Nevada 1974" answers the call for Private Elevator leasing Pullman Standard 4750 Covered Hoppers. These bright blue cars (part of a 25 car order) traveled far and wide and “fit in” almost anywhere. This PTLX group of cars features a Pullman body with open-hole posts, center-tube train air line, and truck mounted brake hardware. (Notice there is no brake cylinder on the B-End!) The bays are equipped with beautifully replicated early-style Miner outlet gates. This Roland & Nevada Coop paint scheme is full of little lettering details. Check out that logo mounted on a small placard in the center of the carbody! The models come equipped our 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with accurate “Timken” rotating caps and correct truck-mounted brake beams. From the red roof grab irons down to the PTLX reporting marks printed on the draft gear, this paint scheme is winner. Available in four accurate numbers. SKU 20078 - SOO "Ex-Roland and Nevada IA" 1985+ shows us an example of a 1980s secondhand car, as SOO Line expanded their grain fleet. These cars aren’t like the patches you see in the 2000s+, with lots of paint changes and added lettering. “SOO” was carefully patched over the PTLX and the first digit of the former Pullman lease series. Simple and understated, just like 1980s patches should be. This SOO leaser features a more weathered blue body color and a weathered and peeling “RN” logo panel in the middle of the car, matching its prototype photo. The roof walkways finished with a weathered “unpainted” metal look, to mimic the real car. The other details are accurate for this former PTLX leaser, including a Pullman body with open-hole posts, center-tube train air line, and truck mounted brake hardware. (Notice there is no brake cylinder on the B-End!) The bays are equipped with beautifully replicated early-style Miner outlet gates. The model comes equipped our 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with accurate “Timken” rotating caps and correct truck-mounted brake beams. The model even has its former PTLX reporting mark printed on the draft gear! Available in one accurate number. SKU 20079-01 - MWCX "Ex-Roland and Nevada IA" 2013+ shows off a contemporary patch for Midwest Railcar Leasing. A 2013 photo shows this MWCX leaser had escaped Conspicuity Striping, so we didn’t apply it to the model! This car features a more weathered blue body color, replacement roof hatches, a weathered and peeling “RN” logo panel in the middle of the car, patched data and roof walkways finished with a weathered “unpainted” metal look. The model even has its AEI tag properly installed on the lower right pull tab on the body! Available in one accurate number. SKU 20080-01 - PTLX "Kellogg Grain 1974" is a beautiful example of a yellow Pullman leaser, with dark blue “Kellogg Grain Co. Denver, Colo.” Graphics. This PTLX group of cars features a Pullman body with open-hole posts, center-tube train air line, and truck mounted brake hardware. (Notice there is no brake cylinder on the B-End!) The bays are equipped with beautifully replicated early-style Miner outlet gates. The Kellogg Grain Co. graphics are busy, like many leased schemes, with lettering in almost every panel of the car side! The models come equipped our 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with accurate “Timken” rotating caps and correct truck-mounted brake beams. From the red roof grab irons down to the PTLX reporting marks printed on the draft gear, this paint scheme is winner. Available in three accurate numbers. SKU 20081 - SOO "ex-Kellogg Grain" 1989+ replicates an example of a 1980s secondhand car, as SOO Line expanded their grain fleet. SOO applied reporting mark patches and small reflective white delineators on some carbody posts. The prototype carbody has weathered to a darker yellow, and the Kellogg graphics have weathered from blue to green. These prototype paint features are carefully replicated on this SOO model. This ex-PTLX car features a Pullman body with open-hole posts, center-tube train air line, and truck mounted brake hardware. (Notice there is no brake cylinder on the B-End!) The bays are equipped with beautifully replicated early-style Miner outlet gates. Up on top, the roof features replacement roof hatch covers. The model is equipped our 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with accurate “Timken” rotating caps and correct truck-mounted brake beams. This is a sharp looking SOO patch. Available in one accurate number. SKU 20082-01 - INTX "ex-Kellogg Grain" 2015+ gives modelers a contemporary example of a patched car. We chose this ex-Kellogg Grain Co. car that was acquired by Interstate Commodities and is part of the substantial INTX lease fleet. This car is sharp looking, with a carbody that has weathered to a darker yellow, Kellogg graphics have weathered from blue to green and a roof walkway that has lost its original yellow paint. The car replicates the complicated dance of 2015 lettering. This translates to original Kellogg lettering, former lessor lettering, paint-outs of conspicuity stripes, reapplication of conspicuity stripes and more. And yes, don’t worry, we have the AEI tag and bracket mounted on the car where it should be. INTX lease fleet cars have never been so easy! Available in one accurate number. SKU 20083-01 - PTLX "The Andersons 1974" duplicates a beautiful gray Pullman leaser, with stand-off “The Andersons” placard and the classic PTLX gray-with-black-ends paint scheme. This PTLX group of cars features a Pullman body with open-hole posts, center-tube train air line, and truck mounted brake hardware. (Notice there is no brake cylinder on the B-End!) The bays are equipped with beautifully replicated early-style Miner outlet gates. Up on the roof, you can see that detailed see-though Morton walkway and matching Morton crossover platforms on the ends. Each and every piece of data on this car is carefully replicated, from one-inch COTS box to the separate “The Andersons” placard art. SKU 20084 - PTLX "The Andersons” 1999+ gives the contemporary guys a later lease offering. These two selections are pulled from photos of PTLX cars that are still in their original “The Andersons” gray paint scheme. The logo plates are long gone, and the paint is more faded – losing the PTLX gray shade and moving towards a light blue. Behind the placard panel is a green patch, matching the prototype photos. The running boards are a weathered metal color now. There are lots of differences in the little lettering details – patch reporting marks, COTS updates, ACI removal, data patches – all working together to show these two cars as they looked in the 1999+ era. This PTLX group of cars features a Pullman body with open-hole posts, center-tube train air line, and truck mounted brake hardware. (Notice there is no brake cylinder on the B-End!) The bays are equipped with beautifully replicated Miner “Selflok” outlet gates. Up on the roof, you can see replacement style roof hatches and a detailed see-though Morton walkway with matching Morton crossover platforms on the ends. The models come equipped our 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with accurate “Timken” rotating caps and correct truck-mounted brake beams. We have even mounted AEI tags on the body.
