Scenery challenge ...
Author: Jeff_Johnston

Up next on the layout projects, working on the scenery in a semi-tough part of the layout. The sculpted blue foam at right is the much older area, Central Camp on the Sugar Pine Lumber Company, and at left, the pink foam area is where Central Camp was tied in to the rest of the layout. The challenge is to get the pink area to blend seamlessly with the older features and get the whole thing together in a unified looking way. There's also a creek involved -- Sand Creek, a prototype feature -- and two small trestles so it's going to be a busy area. Stay tuned for the Vimeo video presentation on our progress.

That location seems primed to be a "signature scene" on your layout.  A lot of visual elements (forested hillside, bridges, long switch leads, a creek, etc,) will capture the attention of your visitors.  A question, is the track with the 2 red pins a second mainline or a siding?

Have fun developing the area!

NS -- the Central Camp area to the right is more a "signature scene" here, and is based entirely on historic photos, blueprints and the like. Although maybe I'm defining "signature scene" somewhat differently?

The track with two push pins is a simple storage track, again, based on prototype photos and location visits. It's behind the big machine shop and on the prototype, served as a storage spot for MofW equipment and so on, as well as access for inbound supplies headed for the commissary.  The attached map may help clear up the details. I'm still not sure if we'll include the commissary etc, but the lead track is there in case that project comes along.
