Another scenery challenge
Author: santafedan

One of the best parts of model railroad building is finding your self in a real challenge.  It could  be design, track laying, wiring, backdrops, and the list goes on.
After all the bench work and hidden track work was done, I added scenery in a progressive way from one end to the other.. There were placers where I wanted "show stoppers" scenes that show the area I model.  The Southwest and it also gives me a chance to show ceiling tile to it's best trait..

I wanted a large trestle and a canyon.  I scratched built the trestle based on a design found in the All-Nation  book,  "Bridges and Trestles."

I have probably posted some of these here before, but not in this order or context.

I have built 8 other layouts for others and designed or sceniced them to the wishes of the owners.  Each had challenges to meet.  That is the fun and creative part.

Photo1 the space for the canyon.  The hidden track to storage and mainline run through track is viable.

Photo 2 is the completed trestle, all scale lumber. The trestle was built as if the scenery was already there.  It took planing but was wroth the effort.

Photo 3 the finished look.
I have two more to post.

I wanted the trestle to look as if the scenery was already in place.  I think it turned out well.

I hope Jeff's does a wall.  I will be watching for it.

Amazing looking trestle and scenery.  How long did planning take?  How long did the build take?  Finally, how long did the installation take?  Great job.
