Model Railroading > Paint QuestionDate: 12/03/25 08:44 Paint Question Author: LinerOps I was looking for a paint match to the gray color the GN used on their locomotives in the Big Sky Blue scheme. I saw Ammo Rail Acrylic Medium Ash Gray and thought it might be a good match. Anyone have any experience with this paint. Can you recommend any other paint manufacturer that would have a suitable match for the GN gray.

Richard. Date: 12/03/25 17:58 Re: Paint Question Author: Lighter It is gray/green. When fresh, the green is very noticeable. It quickly weathered to nearly black.
Tru-color is the closest you will get with a railroad name on the label. The Ammo Rail Acrylic Medium Ash Gray you are looking at isn't right for fresh paint, but it could work for older and weathered paint. If you are matching a specific model's paint, all bets are off. The military paint makers—you've mentioned Ammo—have many shades since gray-green is a common military color. Usually "RLM" will be part of the name. Edited 2 time(s).
