Model Railroading > Another close enoughDate: 02/17/26 12:17 Another close enough Author: rgcw5 Probably about 50% done, and with I'd say 80% Tyco (just the locomotive though the tender is a completely different animal)
I'm looking forward to seeing what the reactions are going to be at our club in Carson City Date: 02/18/26 07:11 Re: Another close enough Author: Arved Nice work! Sounds like you have a tough crowd to please. :)
Arved Grass Fleming Island, FL Date: 02/18/26 08:39 Re: Another close enough Author: rgcw5 At my club, I actually get a lot of positive reaction for all my Tyco rebuilds. My WP GP-20 is always a big hit when it runs around as well as my PS-1 "door and a half" boxcars (I have to do at least three more someday). One box car in particular is my Southern Pacific B-70 plug door that for an old timer that work for the SP that's now at our club could not believe that I rebuilt a Tyco box car for that prototype. The only train I seem to get any controversy out of is when I run my protofreelanced modern Tonopah and Tidewater nuclear waste train (mainly because of the yucca mountain controversy)
The main hate I see is from facey space groups and I have to deal with a model train collectors that keep calling Tyco junk in to throw it in the garbage, and I think that's the main thing that deters newer model railroaders with a tight budget from going into that drunk box at a swap meet or a flea market, putting maybe that 100 or $200 (in some cases maybe just 20) that they have saved up and creating a unique prototype that may get the positive feedback they are looking for and build confidence in their modeling skills. |
