Model Railroading > Smokey Valley handrailsDate: 02/23/26 14:12 Smokey Valley handrails Author: Charls Hi all, anyone would have or know a hobbyshop that woould still have a set of Smokey Valley Handrails No 6 for GP 30 available or willing to sell
Most appreciate, let me know via PM Charls Date: 02/23/26 21:24 Re: Smokey Valley handrails Author: ATSFSuperCap Hi, I know you mentioned a private reply but I would like to post this so other TOers can try this. Very simply just keep an eye on ebay. Parts like this will eventually show up there you just have to be patient. As an alternative you could use the latter version of Athearn steel stancions. The EMD stancions used on GP30's were U channel but the sides were very shallow and they almost look just flat. If your stancions are dark colored it will be hard to tell that they are only flat. I did this on a three unit set of Atlas/KATO GP7's that I custom did up for Rio Grande late production GP9's, the only Rio Grande 7's or 9's that had full size fuel tanks. I even faked the oval cutouts for the fuel tank bolts by painting them shiny black on an otherwise flat black unit. Running on the layout in room lighting you cannot tell the stancions are wrong. I bent my own handrails with appropriate size Detail Associates brass wire as Athearn used much thicker than correct wire.
