Need help modeling everything but the trains and track
Author: DocJohn

Getting the correct locomotives and passenger cars for the New York Central River Div. passenger trains 1955-1959 is no longer the problem.  I can duplicate everything except for having enough cars to duplicate the 11-car trains.  Problem modeling Haworth, NJ, is everything but the trains (assuming Code 83 flex track to be good enough).  Attached pictures show station details except for the station itself (need someone who can build model from pictures).  In particular how do I duplicate the platforms and other details for which models do not exist.

Thank you,

John

Looks like the platform is asphalt with wood timbers lining the edge. There are many ways to model this. One would be to to buy some 1/16" basswood strips about 1" wide and some 1/16" x 1/16" strips from a hobby shop or online. Coat the 1" wide piece in a thin layer of plaster and paint with some pewter gray acrylic paint with a touch of blue added to simulate the asphalt. Mix some dark brown and black paint to simulated creosoat wood and water it down slightly to stain the 1/16" x 1/16" strip cut to 2" long pieces and after drying, glue to the edge of the 1" wide asphalt platform.

I and many local rail fans would meet every Sunday (in the 1970's) morning on the old platform. After a while the town placed a bench and trash can for our use. Was only single track. Had a great time. I wounder if any of the old gang are on TO?
