Model Railroading > Livin’ Large, a scratchbuilt gon, in 1.5” scaleDate: 03/01/26 16:26 Livin’ Large, a scratchbuilt gon, in 1.5” scale Author: WrongWayMurphy Just finished up on this 5 ft. long (40 ft scale) outside braced composite gondola.
I welded angle iron to make the frame and side bracing, 2" x 1" tube runs the length of the underframe as the backbone, then plywood for sides and ends. Commercial Tom Bee trucks and couplers and vinyl stickers from Miracle Graphics were the parts from outside vendors. This isn't modeled after a specific car, just a generic car with a Katy look.
