Model Railroading > Tangent March 2026 Release: NACC 1963-design 20,500gal TankDate: 03/20/26 05:57 Tangent March 2026 Release: NACC 1963-design 20,500gal Tank Author: TangentScaleModels Asheville, North Carolina: Tangent Scale Models today is releasing our next all-new HO scale freight car, the North American Car Corporation (NACC) 1963-design 20,500 Gallon Non-Insulated Tank Car, Class ICC-111A-100-W-1. This gorgeous prototype tank car model has never been available before in either brass or plastic, with applicability for modelers from the 1960s to the 2000s. We are excited to bring you this highly-relevant – and needed – tank car model in HO Scale.
You’ve been asking for 1960s tank cars. Here they are. No preorders. No waiting. These cars are available right now. Oh - and don’t forget to enjoy one of the first North American Car Corporation tank car models ever made in the history of HO! North American Car Corporation (NACC) produced this 20,500 Gallon tank car design between 1963-1966. These non-insulated tank cars were used for various commodities, including Vegetable Oils, Dyes and Colorants, Coatings, Liquid Phosphorous, Carbon Dioxide, Ethylene, Hydrochloric Acid, Kerosene, and Gasoline. The welded tank design does not include an expansion dome but instead has a loading bonnet, gauging device, and a safety valve or safety vent. The underside of the underframe features the brake appliances, bottom outlet, and some cars have heater coil system pipes. These cars are notable by the handrails that extend across the entire tank from the ends. All of these features fit within a Plate B clearance envelope. The Tangent Scale Models NACC 20,500 Gallon Tank Car is a dimensionally-accurate replica that adds great visual variety to your tank car fleet. Our model includes key build variations, notably the top of tank fittings, underframe fittings, and brake systems. This replica includes our “near-scale” draft gear box including side “key” detail. Our ready-to-operate replica is finished with coupler lift bars accompanying Kadee® scale couplers, sufficient hidden weights, and CNC-machined wheels to ensure the model operates as good as it looks. Our March 2026 release of the HO NACC 1963-design 20,500 Gallon Non-Insulated Tank Car includes four railroad schemes, plus two RTR unlettered “but painted” options. - AESX "AE Staley Manufacturing Company Delivery 1963" leads off in a shipper-designed bright white and blue paint scheme with the classic Staley logo, including the words “Vegetable Oils.” The left side of the car includes the classic 1960s A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company stenciling, effectively advertising the company’s brand and product. Check out this model’s distinctive color separations: white carbody, blue underframe, and blue tank band. Additionally, you will see the reporting mark, road numbers, and NACC-standard serial number applied to the super-detailed underframe. These tank cars roll on Tangent 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with 36’ wheels, separate truck brake beams and rotating Timken roller bearing caps. These beautiful cars are available with 4 numbers, perfect for building a small fleet of these gorgeous and distinctive tank cars. SKU 31010 - NATX "Black Lease Delivery 1966" introduces the first version of the NATX “plain black lease” paint scheme, this one from the 1966 original build of this specific car lot. These cars feature the Roman-style stenciling in white, which certainly “pops” against the black-painted carbody. Like most non-billboard lessee stenciled tank cars, these cars state their lessee in a very small stencil on the car, including the words “Hercules Powder Company.” Check out the reporting mark, road numbers, and NACC-standard serial number applied to the super-detailed underframe. These tank cars roll on Tangent 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with 36’ wheels, separate truck brake beams and rotating Timken roller bearing caps. These cars are available with 4 road numbers, perfect for filling out your era-specific trains. SKU 31011 - NATX "Anderson Clayton Foods" 1973+ gives modelers an example of one specific use for these non-insulated, purpose-built tank cars, and that is food service products. Painted in a distinctive dark green carbody color, these cars proudly wear the Anderson Clayton Foods era-specific company branding. These cars also feature the Roman-style stenciling in white, which certainly “pops” against the green-painted carbody. Also note that some of the rooftop appliances are painted white as an opposing color to the carbody green. Because these cars were repainted in 1973, they include ACI labels, appropriate COTS, and a “Leased from North American Car Corporation” logo. The “TEX” in place of the NEW date on the side of the car references the Texarkana TX shop where the updating and painting occurred. Check out the reporting mark, road numbers, and NACC-standard serial number applied to the super-detailed underframe. The underframe lettering also includes references to the steam coil system that the car is equipped with internally – and the external reference being the aforementioned lettering and the two pairs of inlet-outlet pipes protruding from the underframe in the center of the car. These pipes are a Tangent variation to replicate the prototype’s underbody appliances. These tank cars roll on Tangent 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with 36’ wheels, separate truck brake beams and rotating Timken roller bearing caps. These cars are available in 4 numbers. SKU 31012 - NATX "Black Lease Repaint" 1990+ is our modern paint scheme offering on this model for our first release. This car SKU is a “black lease” scheme that was common from that era. These cars feature the 1990-era Roman-style stenciling in white, which certainly “pops” against the black-painted carbody. Like most non-billboard lessee stenciled tank cars, these cars state their lessee in a very small stencil on the car, including the words “Agrico Chemicals Lessee.” Reflecting the modernized paint applied to these cars, they are equipped with 3-panel COTS and modernized tank car data including DOT references. Check out the reporting mark and road numbers applied to the super-detailed underframe. These tank cars roll on Tangent 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with 36’ wheels, separate truck brake beams and rotating Timken roller bearing caps. These cars are available with 4 road numbers, perfect for filling out your era-specific trains. Curious, are you not doing N scale cars anymore? The 4750s were great but it's been well over a year for anything N. |
