Just movin' that crappy old rail with a spiffy hi-rail...
Author: MrMRL

Recently purchased a nice 3D printed HO Scale model of a modern multi-axle Hi-rail MoW truck with three removable boom crane options. Silver Spike Designs offers numerous 3D printed scale track MoW and inspection vehicle kits. The club recently acquired one of their modern boom truck rail car kits to include along various parts of the club layout. It is offered in two variations, "hi-rail", or "road", I picked "road", the hydraulically controlled RR wheels are still reasonably close to touching anyway. The entire 3D printed kit is around 35 unpainted parts, most of which are very well cleaned up and ready for paint out of the box. Even the tires and wheel rims (still strategically attached to a 3D-base form) were very easy to paint. Paint (rattle can/brush for details), assembly (CA) and decalling (Microscale) only took an additional 2-3 hours or so. Paint/decals not provided.

I'm gonna have to look at several other available track MoW kits this outfit is selling. A much more accessible alternative to the now severely limited (and dated) Custom Finishing white-metal kits from 20-30 years ago. Only thing I really need to do now is figure out some window glass options for this model.

Built on a Western Star chassis...a dinosaur by today's standards.  The second generation, built from Peterbilt 357s, are today's old-timers.
