Model Railroading > Athearn Cancels D&H 7600 GP39-2s.Date: 03/27/26 20:07 Athearn Cancels D&H 7600 GP39-2s. Author: NYSWSD70M English's/Bowser told me today that Athearn cancelled a number of items in November including the D&H 7600 GP39-2's. These were the built new for the D&H EMD's - all of which were highly anticipated here in the Northeast. They were unique in that they had a different step configuration (second step from the bottom step was moved inward to make it easier for a rider) and differences in fuel tank placement and filler configuration.
The question is,what happened? Since 90 plus % of the model was already developed, it seems like an odd candidate for cancellation. This is from a recent email (today) Athearn sends out on a weekly basis.
Edit: I just noticed these are all 7400 series units. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 03/27/26 20:52 by ChrisCampi. Date: 03/27/26 21:15 Re: Athearn Cancels D&H 7600 GP39-2s. Author: CPR_4000 That's too bad. I have a couple of Atlas Trainman D&H 7600's and I'm sure the Athearns would have been nicer. I remember on Conrail Day shooting brand new D&H 7601-2-3-4 at Lehigh Gap. They were so new that the last two didn't even have D&H shield decals.

Yes the 7400's have been out before as have the Reading 3400's ,(same locomotives). Posted from Android Date: 03/30/26 11:07 Re: Athearn Cancels D&H 7600 GP39-2s. Author: NYSWSD70M I have an update directly from Athearn this morning!
Good news - these have not been cancelled. In fact the unique to the D&H tooling is complete and decorated samples are expected soon. This leaves the question as to why did they appear on a cancellation list sent to Bowser resulting in the cancellation of my order and that fact that Bowser has no visabiliy of these units in their system used to order Athearn items. I pointed this out to Athearn. I said that I may not be the only one with a cancellation. Also, these units no longer appear anywhere on the Athearn website. It is something that they should look into. Posted from Android Date: 03/30/26 11:26 Re: Athearn Cancels D&H 7600 GP39-2s. Author: ChrisCampi Good news. They sure are sharp looking units.

Bowser meanwhile doesn’t have any room to criticize, their website is marginally better than Athearn when it comes to things like tracking product development, but they very recently cancelled an entire run of announced Baldwin switchers, as near as I can tell by just dropping all reference to them from their website with no formal other notice that I can discern.
