(See sixaxlecentury's post below this one.) Reason is clearance in industrial situations such as steel mills. The newer SW1000 did not fit in those clearance situations. Original buyers of the SW1001 are almost entirely steel mills and steel railroads. Due to mergers, many are now on major railroads, particularly CXX and NW. Edited 5 time(s). The frame sits lower on the trucks (look at the front pilot - it sits higher) and the cab is longer.
1001's really have nothing in common with anything, except mechanically with an SW1000. |
