Model Railroading > Big Green!Date: 03/29/26 02:39 Big Green! Author: funnelfan Spent Saturday night running BN Grain Trains on the Caldwell Model RR Club layout. I was really surprised I could pull 50 cars up the grades and curves without stringlining when all the power was on the point of the train. The cars were leaning to be sure, but everything stayed on the rails. Thought for sure I was going to need to run a 2-unit helper cut into the train. All but one of the units were ScaleTrains, the oddball being a Kato I supredetailed years ago. One of my oldest and most ran ST SD40-2's had a front worm gear bearing run dry and start howling, so I had to tear it apart to lube the driveline and motor bearings. I was able to seperate the frame parts just enough to put oil on a toothpick and apply directly to the bearings.
