Fiber Optics for lighting effects
Author: M-636

I am updating an early release Bowser C630 which did not come with illuminated class lights. I would like to use fiber optic strands to add these lighting effects and I am curious how one goes about making a consistent size lens across several strands of F.O.? Is there an actual technique or trick to it?

I used fiber optic line to do the class lights on my commuter train.  I can't remember the size of the cable, but it was small.  I butted the other end of the cable to the end of a red LED that was connected to one of the function outputs of the DCC decoder so I could turn it on and off.  The "lense" at the other end was created by heating the end with a candle so it would be rounded off and not flat.

Nice train that you modeled. I don't think I've ever seen anyone else model that train.

Agreed. McKeesport station, maybe?

The only other model of the PaTrain I have seen is at the McKeesport Model RR Club.

The photo location was the Pittsburgh Grant St station from my old layout in Maryland.
