Tossed in free....HALP!
Author: rgcw5

Backstory: so I'm detailing a Tyco Kenworth-esque cabover to use on our club's modular layout display (I find it less of a panic attack if it winds up missing) and the guy threw in a Tyco 4-bay hopper and one of those Woodside reefers (pictured) now the hopper I don't have a problem with I can easily convert that in throw that into one of my 1970s era train sets (lashups not the little boxes) but the reefer confounds me, I really don't want to toss it l, I don't want to give it away, and I don't want it to sit in my spare parts bin. I'm one of those guys at our club that really likes to detail "toy train stuff" and "for parts" into nice one of a kind prototypes, but with this reefer design I'm perplexed, it is steel ends but wood sides, we're just telling me in my limited pre-1968 mind that these were probably rebuilt in 30s or 40s which I would assume would work for either my Tonopah and Tidewater train set, or my post world war II Virginia and Truckee train set, but I have no clue on what road to repaint this car in! (Especially for a road that would be Nevada based) I remember at one point these cars were repurposed for dog food service but I don't remember which area that is so some serious help in this department is needed!

I recall having one of those as a kid.

Could it be repurposed into a shed of some sort, or do you want to keep it in rotation on the tracks?

Even as a shed, I'd like to know what roads used this type of car

Well the first thing is to figure out what prototype is it the closest to. After you strip off that paint it might be easier to figure that out.
I'm thinking it may be a semi-close match for one of PFE's many classes of rebuilds.

PFE was my second thought, my first was " I like Baby Ruth's!"

Would be a nice billboard if the side was copied saving the car
