Bowser C-415 Second Run

Very popular new model a months ago.  they've added a few paint schemes including some basic paint with no lettering, add your own decals.

Surprised to see the McCloud scheme.

Wow. Im surprised to see that too. McCloud only had a few locomotives...Bowser choose 36 and 37 as their "what-if" locomotives numbers...which were used on two of the McCloud SD38's.Either way, I'm stoked for some new McCloud locomotives.

Kind of surprised to see that myself. It almost happened, the C-415 demonstrator spent a week in McCloud in 1967:

mccloudriverrailroad.com/LocomotiveRoster/AlcoC415.htm

Alco drew up recommendations for how the railroad could function with three C-415s. Don’t know at this point how seriously McCloud actually considered the C-415, as things turned out they went for the SD38s two years later instead.

A couple decades back George Landrock “painted” a C-415 drawing in the Baldwin colors, I wonder if someone at Bowser saw that and got inspiration. Either way, I’m looking forward to the model.

Lastly, while they remain available on a couple websites for preorder, Bowser did cancel their latest planned run of Baldwin switchers, including the Sierra units. So, one loss and one gain for California shortline modelers.

Worth noting these are listed as pre-order. Suppose if they don't have sufficient pre-orders they may drop a scheme or two.

Bowser doesn't list an SD38 or SD38-2. ( + as a future McCloud project, just conjecture )

Their end cab Baldwin Switcher doesn't have an OC&E or McCloud scheme. Lots of almosts.

Their unmarked red and grey scheme looks a lot like the early CORP colors. I'm wondering who does their recommendations. Their Canadian offerings have been awesome.

The SD38's Im referencing were 36 and 37 on the McCloud roster, not Bowser's. I was just pointing out that McCloud only had a handful of locomotives. Out of 9980(ish) open roster numbers to choose from, Bowser also chose to use 36 and 37 as the two roster numbers for the c415 run.

McCloud with four exceptions always numbered their locomotives in order of acquisition. Highest “official” number assigned to the Baldwin diesels was DRS-6-6-1500 #35, they did have a second unit that carried the #36 in its number boards but seldom if ever operated on the railroad and became a spare parts supply source. There is no reason to not believe that had McCloud purchased C-415s in 1967 following the demonstration tour they would have been numbered 36-38, as were the SD38s the railroad bought instead in 1969. Interesting what if/might have been move on Bowser’s part.

Yesterday's practices, today's prices.

McCloud found out the same thing the WP found out while testing, too slippery. It does make you wonder how successful it would have sold if the demo unit had the hi adhesion trucks.

Per an article a couple of years ago in the SP Trainline the C-415's weight distribution was one of the reasons for their slipperiness.
