Date: 05/06/26 23:00 Re: Southern pacific paint scheme Author: atx_railfan It's a fascinating story. Basically defiant SP shop crews after the merger who repainted these in the closest thing to SP colors they could.
Older TO thread on it here: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1187960 Date: 05/07/26 02:47 Re: Southern pacific paint scheme Author: Highhood OK, thanks.
No further answers are necessary. Jon Fink Schenectady, NY Date: 05/07/26 10:20 Re: Southern pacific paint scheme Author: TCnR This might be helpful to folks:

Fans deemed these as "Roseville Repaints". Of course, UP management eventually found out about this and unceremoniously put an end to this practice of touching up former SP units with fresh SP Lark Dark Gray and SP Scarlet. Cheers, Harry Date: 05/08/26 22:17 Re: Southern pacific paint scheme Author: Diesel-Doctor well I cannot confirm or deny the so called 'Roseville Repaints', but I did capture the UP patched 8801 at the Proviso Diesel Shop in Melrose Park Illinois on September 2003. As you can see, there was no 'repainting' applied to this unit, unless you include the California tagging the graffiti vandals left behind.

It is only four years after it got the repaint, but the quality of paint they used was poor, and it has quickly faded. |
