Model Railroading > Scalecoat Paint status?

I've been a Scalecoat fan since the 70's, so now that I have run out of crtical colors,  I am wondering what the current deal is. After its revival a year ago, now I see that no paint, only thinner, stripper & etc. is in stock at Walthers and the Scalecoat website. Its facebook page has not been updated since last December.

It's looking pretty dead in the water. I remember last year they posted a message that basically said, don't ask us for updates.

Thinking there are less modelers who paint and use an airbrush these days. This may limit demand for paint? I'm with you, hard to beat the way Scalecoat lays down and how nicely decals apply. How many people here on TO use an airbrush and paint ??? The amazing ready to run models may also keep folks from painting. Just a thought.

I still do some painting and have very little Scalcoat left.  And, NO black, so basically i am painting cabooses.  Diesels are just to damn hard to paint

I agree in terms of model railroaders. But that is a small market and was even back in the "good old days." 

The BIG markets for airbrushes and paints are military, game, and figure modelers. They almost universally use acrylics. There are a lot of USA and European paint makers that cater to this market. Some have enemal and laquor formulations. Since these paint makers don't use railroad names on their colors, the paints are ignored in the model railroad hobby. Let's see—is Dragon Tongue green the same as Illinois Terminal green?

That may help take some of the guesswork out.

Questionable. For instance, that chart says NYC and PC green are the same. They are not. That said, I think Floquil "Jade green" was horrendous.

Thanks for everyone's input. Yeah, given what has happened to Floquil and others, along with six months of silence, I guess that it may be a forlorn hope that Scalecoat will survive. Once my meagre supply runs out, I guess no more spray and bake. It doesn't work very well for plastic, anyway.

What I really need is a cross reference for Scalecoat colors. Floquil seemed to have had quality control problems and colors drifted from batch to batch.
Does anyone have a good match fro Scalecoat Roof Brown?

I just received some Scalecoat 1 thinner direct from Scalecoat to paint some brass. I still have a few 1 and 2 versions of paint remaining. Amazing how long those paints are still viable. I noted on Scalecoat's website that they were asking guidance on what colors were highest priority first. I take that to mean they can't do a lot of colors at the same time. Those people who are looking for their paint should send them their preferred colors. I would think Scalecoat 1 color priority colors might be different from the version 2 paints. Black, white, silver, reefer yellow and orange, browns and reds would be a good start. Then get into specific RR colors. Let them know there are people waiting.

Painters I know have moved onto acrylics. Tru-color seems to be the preferred option.

Yes, people still paint and are amazing at it! Weathering seems to be still popular, but with more options now a days. All about layering it seems like for weathering.

I like the enamels overall, but not easy to find as mentioned.
