Boxes in Boxes
Author: funnelfan

It's been almost two months since I spent any real time at the modeling work bench. Between a lot of overtime hours at work and other projects, especially some involving my vehicle, I just hadn't had much time to spend on modeling. Last weekend I decided my Late Steam/Transition era car fleet was badly lacking in 40' boxcars, especially of non-western railroads. So I used some of that overtime money and ordered seven 40' boxcars off Ebay. They all arrived in the past few days. I've was busy Saturday putting all of them into service. Here are a couple of them.
This Wabash car was the most involved as it was a Red Caboose kit that needed to be built. It turned out really nice. I did add cut levers, Intermountain wheelsets and used a Kadee coupler boxes to replace the original press-fit coupler boxes. That required modifying the underframe a little bit. I also painted the underframe and brake parts. The B&O Wagontop boxcar is a Fox Valley Models that I added the cut levers to. Next I will need to get busy weathering some cars.
With these off the work bench, maybe now I can catch up on some of the other long delayed projects clogging up the work bench.

They look really nice.  Good cars from a classic era!

Very nice. Good job on the Red Caboose kit.  I have one of the Fox Valley wagontops too, but it is more red than your car.

Years ago, I built a ton of Southeastern Red Caboose cars. They remain one of my favorite kits of all time. Now that I'm modeling in the mid to late 70s, they are not so much I vogue on the Tampa Northern. I still have a couple of dozen on the shelves under the layout. Also, there are a few IMWX and InterMountain cars there as well.

Well done. Was the Red Caboose pre-lettered?
