? about kato couplers- n scale can I keep the spring

I was replacing my F-3 stock couplers with micro-trains and I found I can leave the stock spring and just add the coupler in the rear pocket, my question is there a going to be a problem if the stock spring is a little stiff, but it was good for kato to apply. Thanks for the info
