Passenger Trains > Empire Builder consistDate: 04/03/15 16:15 Empire Builder consist Author: RCPE_Hogger Hi all, I am curious as to the biggest consist the Amtrak's Empire Builder train has ran, regularly. I have searched on this forum, and below is what I have come up with. I have a question about the third Seattle sleeping car, is it regular or just seasonal? And is this consist about the same now? Thank you for any answers.
Power (3 units) Baggage (Chicago to Seattle) Transition Dorm (Chicago to Seattle) Sleeping Car (Chicago to Seattle) Sleeping Car (Chicago to Seattle) Sleeping Car (Chicago to Seattle)<Is this only an extra, or is it regular 3rd sleeper?> Dining Car (Chicago to Seattle) Coach (Chicago to Seattle) Coach (Chicago to Seattle) Sightseer Lounge (Chicago to Portland, OR) Coach (Chicago to Portland, OR) Coach Baggage (Chicago to Portland, OR) Sleeping Car (Chicago to Portland, OR) Coach (Chicago to Minneapolis Saint Paul) Date: 04/03/15 18:01 Re: Empire Builder consist Author: mundo 3rd sleeper to Seattle is not normal.
Date: 04/04/15 09:23 Re: Empire Builder consist Author: BobB When I took the train in February there was only one Seattle sleeper, although Amtrak apparently sold some of the rooms in the transition dorm (which it also does on other trains). This was part of the attempt to save money in the off season. The Chicago-Minneapolis/St Paul coach is also seasonal--I've only seen it at busy times, when the other coaches are close to full. Except when the consist is as large as what you show, the train will normally run with only two units.

Reduction during this period is nothing new, even going back to pre Amtrak days. Date: 04/05/15 19:31 Re: Empire Builder consist Author: phil-s Probably just a finger slip but PDX sleeper brings up the rear, not coach. But now a question -- any other routes use coach/baggage? Maybe Texas Eagle?

With the demand for coach seats, they must use all the bag-coach and Superliner snack-coach. |
