Passenger Trains > Once Again. Pity the Lake Shore Passengers !Date: 06/23/06 13:48 Once Again. Pity the Lake Shore Passengers ! Author: mp16 Amtrak is reporting that the ESTIMATED departure of #49 from Penn Station today will be 3 hrs., 40 mins. late at 7:00 pm. Estimated arrival in Chicago is 11:47 am tomorrow. Estimated departure from Albany-Rensselaer is 9:45 pm. This will mean that passengers
arriving Albany from Boston on #449 will have to wait around 4 hours at Albany station. I don't envy anyone who is ticketed on this train today and the delay will certainly not make for happy passengers. Date: 06/23/06 15:05 Must have something to do with Silver service Author: joemvcnj They are both 5 - 6 hours late today.
Date: 06/23/06 16:51 Re: Add the Zephyr Author: GBNorman Not just the Lake Shore, but I observed "a WB Amtrak train" passing BNSF Chi Sub 18.34, or better known as my home, at 425P.
The train had a "standard' nine car Superliner consist and was hauled by two P-42 locomotives was one Express Trak on the rear. That there was two locomotives suggests it was #5(23), which meant it "late out of the starting gate' by more than two hours. Even if it were #3(23), which normally is assigned three locomotives, it was still an hour late,,,but I think it was #5 (Zephyr). Oh but what a difference a week makes when Mr. MP 16 reported to the Forum (and I was aboard) how 49(13)arrived CUS one minute late!!! Date: 06/23/06 19:00 Re: Once Again. Pity the Lake Shore Passengers ! Author: mp16 WB Lakeshore left NYP at 7:02 pm, about what they estimated it would do. As of 9:43 pm it was at Albany.
The 1:45pm Empire train NYP-BUF left on time and arrived 30 mins. early. The Crescent(2:15 pm) and the SB Meteor (3:15pm) left Penn Station on time. One wonders why the Lake Shore left so late unless weather or equipment malfunctions were a problem. And re: the Lake Shore's one minute late arrival in Chicago last week, I still am in a state of shock and wonder if Odin or Zeus might have been watching over the train that day. Let's hope history repeats itself for that one. Tonight's eastbound Lake Shore is supposed to leave Chicago 1:55 late at 9:45 pm. Date: 06/23/06 22:25 Re: Once Again. Pity the Lake Shore Passengers ! Author: Amtrak288 I wish #49 could run on its old schedule back in the early-mid 1990's. I'm gonna be on it again this Fall and arriving in Sandusky, OH at 4am (or whenever it's supposed to arrive) and trying to actually find a cab to my hotel is no easy task!!! In 2004, when I rode it, I got to town at 5am, only to wait 90 minutes and 3 phonecalls later and not get a taxi at all! Then last year, same thing happened, only this time I couldn't even find a phonebook at the station to call a taxi! Both times, I ended up waiting and eventually riding a transit bus to my hotel!!! The first time I rode #49 was in July 1996 and I arrived into Sandusky, OH then, on time at 7:44am! I use it every year to go to Cedar Point!

It was better than getting up at 4 a.m. to fly to SB, and the arrival time was about the same. I had a full day in the office, then left on the train, had another full day in South Bend. Now, the departure is too early from NYC.
