Passenger Trains > Field, B.C. Circa April 1985Date: 10/04/06 14:58 Field, B.C. Circa April 1985 Author: NscaleMike Rode the Canadian in April of '85 from Vancouver to Toronto. A fantastic trip...wonderful old Via Rail equipment...that was working in top notch condition...
Thought I post a few images from that trip I took. 1. Field Depot 2. Crewman inspecting portion of the dinner car 3. Young riders enjoying the view from the dome. Date: 10/04/06 17:51 Re: Field, B.C. Circa April 1985 Author: Waybiller NscaleMike Wrote:
------------------------------------------------------- > 2. Crewman inspecting portion of the dinner car I believe this is actually a former CN "E" series sleeper, not a diner. Date: 10/04/06 18:40 Re: Field, B.C. Circa April 1985 Author: NscaleMike Waybiller you are no doubt correct...
I was trying to count cars from where my girlfriend and I were staying.... I think the windows at the end help identify this as such. Thanks! Date: 10/04/06 18:54 Re: Field, B.C. Circa April 1985 Author: Waybiller I only noticed because I also rode the Canadian in April of '85, although just to Regina. I had a lower section in the Emerald. I remember the very heavy and warm CN blankets I had.
Your pictures are much much nicer than mine as well. Great pictures of a great train. Date: 10/04/06 19:08 Re: Field, B.C. Circa April 1985 Author: NscaleMike Here is a view of almost the entire train, taken from the last domeliner...I believe east of Field, approaching Lake Louise?

The last two photos appear to be taken along the north shore of Lake Superior, between Nipigon and Heron Bay,Ontario or roughly 1500 miles east of Field, BC.

The "inspection" mentioned is actually of an ex-CN Pullman sleeper, note the duplex roomette windown at the end of the car. In the full train shot, I don't see any diner, and would surmise that, as done in the off season, the foreward dome-cafe provides all meal service for the train. But, as "God" intended, the Canadian traverses the proper CP route, far more scenic than the better engineered CN route. AA Stanford White Carmel Valley, CA Date: 10/06/06 13:34 Re: Field, B.C.
