Author: kodachrome9319

Just got word from a friend in Martinez that #542 struck SOMETHING between Martinez and Suisun/Fairfield a few minutes ago.

Anyone have additional details?

I just wanted to point out that many cops (and dispatchers) have no idea who dispatches the trains, and who is responsible for them. As shown in CHP's CAD log, someone had to send a message that says Amtrak is telling them that the train is dispatched by UP. This lack of knowledge is fairly common in public safety. It's not their fault---they are not trained on this unless they go to an OL presentation or someone at the railroad reaches out to teach these things. So when there is confusion on the part of public safety when responding to an incident, this is why (as you can see above). What is "common knowledge" to railfans, is NOT common knowledge to public safety personnel.

This is one reason all crossings have signs posted with the name of the crossing, DOT#, and emergency phone # for the correct Railroad.
