Author: bmichel5581

All four South-bound Lincoln Service trains (301,303, *321*, 305,307) are sold out tomorrow.

305 and 307 also sold-out tonight (12/22) as well.

the 393 and 390 have been sold out the last two days in a row now...

*edit*
i guess i should edit in that the consists were not expanded and all trains are running with the standard Cafe+3 Coaches config. making capacity at around 212 coach - 14 business class

That's dumb on Amtraks part, but you know why they have to do this and I'm gonna be glad when they don't have to have someone watching over their shoulder all the time and they can expand capacity!

Well I am glad it's not just the NEC that has fixed consists and Amtrak won't add more cars etc. Was on a train today where two cars were not being used and the train was shown as "sold out." Conductor said that the train had an equipment move to make to Washington DC so that's why the coaches were not opened up. Sounds like Amtrak to me!

That's frustrating.

Sometimes it's a labor issue. The number of cars that can be opened is a function of how many conductors and assistant conductors are assigned to the train. Although it would be logical to (and any well managed company would) open them up, it may not be in the crew's power to use the cars.

Amtrak is a very bureaucratic, top down, not-my-decision, organization. When crews show initiative, that's great. But not very usual in my experience.
