Passenger Trains > 49/449 of Jan. 30th

The combined train has not yet reached Chicago.
Currently 9 hrs. 51 mins late today and is estimated
to arrive 7:36 pm Monday

Since it is arriving so late would they cancel the
train tonight (Monday) from Chicago or have it leave
at some very late hour like 3 or 4 am ?

I guess cold weather and some mechanical problems
are the reasons for the delay.

As of 6:30pm CST Amtrak.com list departure for 448 as 11:30 (two hours late), and projected arival in Boston as two minutes early. (Too bad you can't place a bet on that one!). Departure time seems pretty optimistic if they're planning to water the cars, empty the potties, stock the diner, etc.

Isn't 49/449 the same consist that had an issue at Toledo on the morning of January 31st (originating from Boston/NYC Jan 30th), and passengers had to be bussed from Toledo to final destination of Chicago or intermediate stops etc.?

Norfolk Southern was to then bring the train into Chicago as both P42's had died (including supply of head-end power). NS was supposed to leave Toledo with the consist around 1:30 p.m. - not sure if that was yesterday, Sunday Jan 30th, or today January 31st. This train set, upon arrival into Chicago, would then be turned to become 48/448 (after the necessary cleaning and re-stocking).

However, if HEP is not restored on the train while NS is "towing it" from Toledo to Chicago, I would imagine that there would be potential freeze up of cars (Viewliner sleepers, Diner, restrooms in coaches etc). Amtrak doesn't keep spare Viewliner or Heritage Diners in Chicago, let alone many single level cars.....

It's not like the train set is going to "thaw" in Chicago as well. Hopefully it will make it back East where it can then turn to become the Silver Star so it can be "thawed" on the way, and in, Miami, Florida!
