More on Lorraine Green
Author: GenePoon

From another discussion board, commentary on further news about Amtrak Vice President-Human Relations Lorraine Green,
who announced last week that she would be leaving Amtrak:

> Interesting timing, to say the least. Lorraine Green's retirement from Amtrak was announced just before the Washington Post dropped a
> bombshell. A long piece in today's editions presents allegations from a former mayoral candidate that he received cash payoffs from Green
> and that she later helped facilitate his hiring to a six-figure position at a city agency. (From which he was summarily fired last
> month.) This was apparently part of a shadowy quid pro quo which would keep him in the DC mayor's race, where he could persist in his
> over-the-top attacks on incumbent Adrian Fenty. All this allegedly occurred while she headed DC Mayor Vince Gray's campaign and
> subsequent transition to office....and collected her salary from Amtrak.

I wonder if she is the recipient of one those shiny new big black SUV's the city bought for the mayor and his top cronies?

Hmmmmmmm

unqualified people hired for senior positions
money passing under the table for services and contracts
an "insider" who's been connected forever

yup, sounds like just the right person for a senior Amtrak job.

None of this has been proven so far, and it's still talk, but it should be very interesting if she decides to turn "state's evidence" in return for testimony on contracts, special deals, or other areas the former inspector general was probing just before he was fired.

(The DC connection has a much bigger scope. The former mayor, Adrian Fenty, upset many teacher's union and city employee union members by demanding better results from the bloated school system, unproductive street cleaning and inspections departments, etc. Getting him out of office and getting things "back to normal" was a priority for the old guard. Of which Ms Green is a charter member, and the subject of this Washington Post story.)

The Washington Post notes that federal charges have been brought against one of Mayor Vincent Gray's associates for campaign finance violations.

Amtrak VP of Human Resources Lorraine Green was fingered in the inspection as one of the conduits for the illegal transfer of campaign funds, while she was employed at Amtrak. At least one transfer occurred in Union Station, according to reports at the time. Ms Green has since retired, and her attorney says the investigation of her is at an end. As far as I know, she's never been accused of taking funds for personal use.
