Passenger Trains > I Finally Meet Amtrak's JulieDate: 10/25/11 01:11 I Finally Meet Amtrak's Julie Author: cp1400 Amtrak's 40th Anniversary Train was on display in Seattle this past weekend. Since I was in the area after the always entertaining 9th annual Autumn Leaf Railroad Slide Show in Centralia, Wa on Saturday I decided a tour of the Amtrak train was in order. Besides rumor had it that Julie was there to greet everyone.
1. The sign at 2nd Ave and King St inviting people to the display. 2. The train on track 7 at King St Station in Seattle. 3. Former F40PH-2 #406, now a Non Powered Control Unit. cp1400 Date: 10/25/11 01:14 Re: I Finally Meet Amtrak's Julie Author: cp1400 4. An overall view from the walkway above the platforms.
5. Not that we're taking over or anything but a coal train bound for Ridley Island at Prince Rupert BC happened to pass by. cp1400 Eh Date: 10/25/11 01:17 Re: I Finally Meet Amtrak's Julie Author: cp1400 6. On board there were many cabinets of memorabilia on display. I wonder how many of those sweaters are still in existence?
7. We don't need no stinking badges! 8. One of the coolest displays was these horns. You could press buttons to hear a recording how they sounded. Too bad they didn't have air hooked up to them. cp1400 Date: 10/25/11 01:21 Re: I Finally Meet Amtrak's Julie Author: cp1400 9. Then I rounded a corner and there she was! Julie
10. I whispered in her ear but she was silent. That's so strange because she's always so chatty on the phone. All she said was "I don't understand. Could you say it again". cp1400 Date: 10/25/11 02:52 Re: I Finally Meet Amtrak's Julie Author: scottp Now that I see her, I'll bet she worked hard to lose her Ukrainian accent.

AJ Date: 10/25/11 08:44 Re: I Finally Meet Amtrak's Julie Author: BaltimoreOhio Back in the plain-old cell phone era, my wife used have some colorful terms for Julie that aren't appropriate for this board. And I didn't blame her. I mean, here we would be on vacation, stopping for the night at places like Effingham, Whitefish, Flagstaff, etc. And after dinner, instead of just retiring to the hotel room, there we were, driving around late at night while I was on the phone with this mysterious Julie. Eventually my wife concluded that it was more than random coincidence that we always seemed to stop for the night at places where a passenger train just happened to be coming in later.
But then the smart phones came along, and now that I just check the status on Amtrak's website, I never call Julie anymore. And now my wife refers to her as my "jilted lover." Date: 10/25/11 10:42 Re: I Finally Meet Amtrak's Julie Author: toledopatch Yesterday, while I was chasing trains around Bellevue, Ohio, Julie called me, instead of the other way around. No, it wasn't for Amtrak -- it was the automated prescription renewal system at Rite Aid. Didn't identify as "Julie," but it was Julie.
And yes, one milestone of aging is being prescribed maintenance medication-for-life. Date: 10/25/11 10:50 Re: I Finally Meet Amtrak's Julie Author: SilverPeakRail I don't think NPCU's keep their air intakes, fuel gauge or fuel fillers. I believe 406 is a functioning locomotive.

Seeing how great that F40PH looks makes me really wonder why they weren't rebuilt in the first place? By most accounts, the engines were well like and reliable. Rebuild them and save some dough! Amtrak has made it well known that it is not a functioning locomotive. The fuel gauges, fuel fillers, and air intakes are for the HEP generator housed inside the body of the NPCU.
