Tripple power Starlight

I was a little surprised to find three locomotives on the Coast Starlight today when I caught it at Elkhorn Slough south of Watsonville. (At least they all matched this time!)

Thanks for looking

So they can find three units to put on this train but leave the Eagle stranded in Texas with just one?

Given the failure rate, 3 engines sounds about right

There are often 3 on the Starlight, with one being ferried to or from LA for maintenance work.

Definitely a peak season consist with 3 sleepers and 4 coaches. Rode 6(7) over the weekend and it had 3 coaches -- with two of them used almost exclusively for "shorts" EMY-RNO and GSC-DEN. Even without the snow, there seems to be lots of weekend traffic to Reno-Reno and to the Glenwood Springs area.
