Passenger Trains > Amtrak Deadhead Via Equipment MoveDate: 11/18/12 04:16 Amtrak Deadhead Via Equipment Move Author: Ray_Murphy I have heard that this morning's Amtrak Train 68 (Montreal-Albany section) will be followed by a special move of the cars (including two Park dome-observation cars) that Via is loaning to Amtrak for two weeks.
The crew goes on-duty at 8:30 AM; Amtrak 68 leaves Montreal's Central Station at 9:30 AM. Ray Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/18/12 04:23 by Ray_Murphy. Date: 11/18/12 05:10 Re: Amtrak Deadhead Via Equipment Move Author: joemvcnj HEP-II or LRC ? My guess is the former.
Date: 11/18/12 08:22 Re: Amtrak Deadhead Via Equipment Move Author: Ray_Murphy The train departed Montreal about 10:30. It's all Budd equipment. Amtrak 822 leads.
It should follow 68 quite closely after the 68's 1 hour+ border stop. Ray Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/18/12 08:32 by Ray_Murphy. Date: 11/18/12 08:26 Re: Amtrak Deadhead Via Equipment Move Author: andersonb109 What is Amtrak doing with the two dome cars? No coach capacity there.
Date: 11/18/12 08:38 Re: Amtrak Deadhead Via Equipment Move Author: Lackawanna484 Should be a spectacular day for train chasing. Temps in the 40s, light breeze, bright sunshine.
Wonder what the northbound opposing move situation looks like? Expect a lot of radio traffic, I'd think, as the movements and their meets are planned out Date: 11/18/12 08:59 Re: Some Pics... Author: Ray_Murphy Date: 11/18/12 09:05 Re: Some Pics... Author: dan atk gets some decent cars
cheapest way to sample a park car Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/18/12 15:39 by dan. Date: 11/18/12 10:07 Re: Some Pics... Author: joemvcnj Passengers will ask why can't Amtrak get NEW cars like these.
Some of the coaches are HEP-I. They have probably not been in the states since they left Red Lion in 1955. The HEP-II's are all native to US railroads, not the CP. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/18/12 10:10 by joemvcnj. Date: 11/18/12 10:20 Re: Some Pics... Author: Lackawanna484 joemvcnj Wrote:

HEP 1 is 62 seat long distance HEP 2 is 60 seat corridor car with a galley in the B end for food service and cart service Date: 11/18/12 12:43 Re: Some Pics... Author: MEKoch I shall assume that the dome cannot go into Penn NY because of the catenary. So it will come off at Albany southbound and be added northbound?
Date: 11/18/12 13:23 Re: Some Pics... Author: swirsk53 reports are that these consists will operate Albany-Rens to Montreal, with cross platform change at Albany-Rens for NY Penn connection; Park cars are supposed to provide "lounge" space. Does anyone know if cafe-snack service will operate from HEP II coach's galley or the Park car?
Date: 11/18/12 13:32 Re: Some Pics... Author: NGotwalt Anyone know how long this arrangement is to last? Because I'm gonna need to get up and ride a Park Car on the Adirondack.
