This is the special that ran from Houston to Galveston, TX on Nov 10 to benefit the Galveston RR Museum (and get the ATSF F-units to their new home).

1) The special rests at Amtrak's station in downtown Houston.

2) Heading east from Amtrak's station to Tower 26.

3) Southbound from Houston.

A stainless steel Zephyr wasn't enough for ya, eh?

Great series!

What else might you squeeze in before the year's end?

Detail differences of those F's aside, there's something about that paint scheme in bright sun that punches just like the real deal. Feels much closer to 1968 than any of Santa Fe's freight warbonnets of the 1990's.

Very nice photos,

Rich

Only thing they need now is a couple of B units to match.

if you mean the 2nd, 3rd and 4th cars, they are not ex Roaring Fork cars...
2nd and 4th are ex-PRR cars acquired recently from Friends of the 261
3rd is an ex-ATSF lunch counter also recently acquired....all now belong
to the Galveston RR Museum, as far as I know
future plans for these cars and the F-units would be of interest since
they are all Amtrak-approved

1) Having crossed the bay & bridge, train swings towards downtown Galveston.

2) Train is about a half mile from museum.

3) F-units pose while train is rearranged for return to Houston.

A great many thanks go to a great many people & the museum for making this special move.

Fabulous shots of those superbly done "new" Warbonnets! Used to switch ATSF ones at Abq depot in the '60s, along with PAs.
Hope they get out this way sometime.

Good shots. I have to kind of smile or chuckle when I see that one lonely Amfleet (Amcan) in a otherwise vintage consist. I know the host RR requires the Amtrak unit for protection even though they seem to forget how reliable these old F's were in their years of service. Thanks for the shots.

Great shots Kevin! I was hoping a TO member would be in the area to cover this very rare trip.

I counted two Amfleet cars. The Amtrak unit was required to pull the 8 car train back to Houston as the F's remained in Galveston.
