Passenger Trains > NJ Transit Dual Mode finally reached NY CityDate: 03/05/13 11:06 NJ Transit Dual Mode finally reached NY City Author: twropr This past weekend, several of NJ Transit's Midtown Direct trains were powered by ALP-45D locomotives to/from Penn Station, NY. This was the first occasion for a dual mode to enter
NY City. The occasion was that NJ Transit was doing some catenary work on the Morristown Line and needed power that could run in diesel mode over the former DL&W and electric on the NEC. Don't look for this to be a regular occurrence - Penn Station does not have the capacity for additional trains. The dual modes were originally ordered when NJT thought they would be used for the "Access to the Region's Core" tunnel that Gov. Christie vetoed.
