New Amtrak Station

New Amtrak multi-buck shed under construction at Benson, AZ. Room for a family of four and bags, maybe??? No facilities. Two benches that were designed for this project won't fit.

The perfect facility. "Wash and wear". Just hose it down occasionally and it will drip dry to perfection in this arid climate.

Probably not really designed, but "stock" items that some drone ordered from far-off Washington DC.

"From here, it LOOKED like they would fit!"

Real nice for a down and going third world country where nobody rides trains anyway.

The quintessential Amshack. This is what happens when Amanagement can't think their way out of their little boxes.

"Nice sign," some people will say, wanting to say something GOOD for a change.

But note that while the central panel says, "SUNSET LIMITED," the only timetable, as reported
by a Sunset passenger last month, was for the TEXAS EAGLE. There was no schedule information for
anything east of San Antonio at all.

"Looked OK from here," said the drone in Washington, DC...

But where are the sanitary, er- restroom facilities? (-:

The new "facility" is an improvement over what was there before;
nothing, if I recall correctly, other than a sign that said BENSON
with the old "pointless arrow" logo...

Take a look at other "non manned" Amtrak stations, the building is for storing an ADA compliant wheelchair lift.

Well, at least it's better than the "station" in Beaumont, TX, which is a featureless concrete slab. No sign, no schedule, no shelter.

I thought Beumont got a new shelter a couple of years ago?

I give the designers credit. Just add a ladder for more seating capacity.

Why do you guys always discredit "thinking out of the box" thinking?

Well, given that Benson has a population of less than 5200, and averages about 4 passengers on/off each time the tri-weekly Sunset/Eagle stops, is anyone here advocating spending more funds on a station? I'm all for better stations, but unless the resources are unlimited, Benson, AZ isn't the place to invest them. Sorry Benson!

I was thinking, alongside the nearest tree. But there aren't many, and the nearest one
is too close to the road.

I agree with Dave. I couldn't believe how "ornate" the new station is in similar populated Winnemucca, Nevada. Seems like a waste of money for 2 or 3 passengers per the two trains a day.

Winnemucca very closely resembles the new Beaumont, TX station.

Well, it is very nice but if you wish to attract riders, they sure as heck don't want to stand out in the open exposed to the elements. A six foot by six foot box sure as heck isn't going to cut it, either.

Reminds me of my cubicle at work, nothing fits in there either. What are the neighbors like?

Is that really a picture of Winnemucca? For years, it's just been a little bus stop converted into something useable. I can't believe they built something that nice!
