No Feather River Canyon detour:

Sierra Hotel and Puget Sound will be on Monday's edition of the "RZ". We will return with the same trainset departing Reno the same day as it's arrival. Plan as of now is to run the power around the train for the return trip.

How nice. A comfortable bus ride over Donner Pass. Assume the wonderful UP isn't banning all their freights as well? Thanks for the detour. I hope all in sleepers are smart enough to demand refunds on sleeper space between Reno and their destination.

If they are going to just run the power around the train, does that mean coach passengers in one direction will be riding backwards the whole way?

For some of them: WHAT refund?

The sleeping car accommodations charge between Chicago and Reno is
IDENTICAL to that between Chicago and Emeryville. Those passengers
who will be in sleepers Chicago-Reno and then a bus to Emeryville
get a refund of FLAT NOTHING. I think this applies to anyone who is
on the train in sleepers for two nights.

And the people were notified from what I am told and had a chance to rebook. The Union Pacific offered the train to detour, but Amtrak was afraid of very long delays on the detour. Why is that Union Pacific's fault? No UP trains are even going via the mountain. Kind of hard since it is single track through Tunnel 41 where the work is being performed.

You obviously haven't been paying attention.

They shouldn't be. Amtrak's Coach seats all swivel, so that you can point them in either direction. Someone just needs to walk through the train and turn all of the seats.
