Report from Richard Whitenight, as to that two-hour delay between
Ft. Worth and Dallas:

> 22 officially departed (FTW) at 14:50 hours.  They shoved south
> across Tower 55, in order to reposition on Main 2, leading into Ney
> Yard. 22 passed me in Arlington at approx 17:32 hours. Somewhere
> between being released by Fort Worth TTD to depart via the South Wye
> at T55 and Ayers St (MP 242.38 of the UP Dallas Subdivision), two
> passengers got into a fight, causing the crew of 22 to stop the
> train. They called the dispatcher and advised of the problem they were
> experiencing. The dispatcher advised to make sure those
> passengers were taken off the train and that Fort Worth police would
> be called out to handle the situation.  The two people were taken off
> the train and were taken in the custody of the Fort Worth PD, and at

A thought:  with this and other types of delays that Amtrak 21/22 incur, why
would anybody want to give them operating rights over the TRE route, which
handles scheduled commuter trains all day?

This train lost two hours.  Does TRE want its trains delayed by
that much, when two passengers get into a fight?

So, TRE trains do not allow their passengers to get into fights? Neat trick. Maybe Amtrak could learn from TRE

Remember when we used to get dressed up to travel?  We as a society sure have fallen a long ways.  Can we say Greyhound on rails?

Just wait until TRE strikes a trespasser or vehicle and ties up the railroad for 2+ hours for investigation and cleanup. Nice try though.

2  hour delay for this?  Remove the idiots from the train....arrest them and move on.

Let's not be quick to be judge and jury. We all know Amtrak refuses to fire the 1% of their trouble-maker employees.

I was on #49 2-1/2 years ago, and a psychotic coach attendant picked a fight with a passenger at Waterloo, said he assaulted her, crew called the cops who tried to remove him, and a shouting match of a dozen passengers started defending the passenger, and accusing the coach attendant of her hostility and abruptness all the way from NY. After an hour, with 2 CP freights behind us, the conductor removed her from service, sat her in a Boston coach, and the whole matter turned over to Amtrak Police in CUS. I could never find out what happened to that coach attendant.

On the other hand Babe Ruth is reputed to have dangled his manager (Miller Huggins) from a moving train...maybe the difference back then was the trains didn't stop every time a fight broke out.

I've been watching #22's performance for the past month or so.  Apparently, either trackwork or 'passenger issues' are causing #22 to rarely make Chicago withing 2-3 hours of 'on time'.

Problem is, in less than 4 weeks, I'm making less-than-4-hours connection to the Cardinal from #22.  Todays' arrival would have missed the Cardinal by over an hour.  This is the return trip of a 40,000 point AGR redemption!

Is the TRE reroute sill in the works or did it die?

Yea, I'm doing a #22 to #30 Capitol Limited connection later this year. A little less than 5 hour connection time.
Mine is the "outbound" leg of a trip at 60,000 AGR points each way.

Here's the problem--
"  Fort Worth TTD advised 22 that if all
paperwork/reports has been completed, that they had permission to
 continue their journey eastward. "

This was my experience on the southbound "Silver Star" a month ago.  The only things missing from third-world coaches were the chickens and goats.  Both restrooms in one coach had to be closed because of passenger abuse.  Sad ...
