Trip report # 6- # 48
Author: co614

Just completed a Lincoln,Ne.- Syracuse NY trip on 6 and 48. Overall very good. #6 about 3.5 hours behind its normal schedule on account tie replacement project. Sleepers about 50% full, coaches light. Crews good. # 48 on the advertised until just west of Syracuse then lost abot 20 minutes. New Viewliner diner ( my first meal in it) and I found it very nice with decent crew. Got a chance to see a neww bagg. inside in service. Very, very nice interior with great lighting and well layed out.

Thanks for the report. It's always good to hear about good crews.   Anything diffferent (better or worse) about the Viewliner diner?

It's not brand new, it was built in 1988.

Has the consist of the LAKE SHORE been reduced?  I recently have heard 52-axle readings on the Fort Plain, NY detector on #49, which traditionally has reported 60 axles.

Boston Section has been being bussed on some days due to track work, and those cars may have been eliminated, especially the Boston Baggage and Cafe Car

While the shell was built in 1988, the dining and kitchen areas were gutted and rebuilt by Beech Grove to serve as the food preparation and service functions prototype for the new Viewliner II dining cars.  From a passenger's perspecitve, it is essentially a new car.
