Sprinter raised platform (Escondido, CA)

Here's a pic of the Sprinter, departing westbound from Escondido, CA this afternoon.
The second picture shows a couple of raised platforms; evidently they don't interfere with freight traffic (note the covered hopper in the distance).
There are some stations built on curves; in those areas the raised platforms are partially retractable.

Those extended platforms do retact. They go up and back like a draw bridge.
