Passenger Trains > Track Switching issues at Washington Union StationDate: 04/01/16 13:12 Track Switching issues at Washington Union Station Author: GenePoon "Track switching problems" are causing delays to trains departing Washington Union Station: MARC, VRE, Amtrak.
Thus far not THAT serious, delays are 15-30 minutes but have been increasing. Hopefully it will all be sorted out, as the peak of rush hour is coming fast. It's warm there but it should not be a problem...82°F Update from MARC at 440pm Eastern Time: > Due to current switching issues in Union Station, no MARC trains will > arrive or depart at this time. Updates will follow as they are received. VRE projects delays of an hour. The Capitol Limited got out OK. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 04/01/16 13:56 by GenePoon. around 530pm: > Issues could potentially last a few more hours and we advise you seek alternate transportation. Amtrak was able to partly resolve the switch issue at Washington Union Station shortly after 600pm Eastern Time, and trains began moving again. By then, trains were seriously delayed, with VRE reporting 90+ minute delays, and MARC reporting similar plus at least one complete cancellation. Amtrak trains have been delayed from 90 minutes up to two hours. Date: 04/01/16 17:12 Re: Track Switching issues at Washington Union Station Author: GenePoon VRE is reporting ongoing delays, with several trains over 2 hours late and one
nearly three hours late. It is now past 800pm and three VRE trains have not yet even crossed the Potomac, though two of them are on the move. An additional one has just crossed into Virginia. I might be wrong but I beleive "A", "C" and "K" plants are still air operated switches. Could have been an air leak or a compressor failure. Alway enjoyed visiting "K" tower back in my corridor daze ........... Date: 04/02/16 09:10 Re: Track Switching issues at Washington Union Station Author: Out_Of_Service 3rd_Raton Wrote:

He commandeered an engine and had the crew make up a connection to hook the trainline to the interlocking. TAW |
